Grade Calculator for Grammar School Exam

On this page "Grade Calculator for Grammar School Exam" we provide you with two different grade calculators for the grammar school exam grade calculation, i.e. two grade calculators for the central entrance examination (ZAP) for the Gymnasium:

1. grade calculator for the required ZAP exam grade (before the Gymnasium exam): You can use this grade calculator to calculate the required ZAP exam grade that you need to achieve based on your preliminary grade - i.e. the relevant school grades - in order to pass the grammar school exam, or to display the required ZAP exam grade if the preliminary grade does not count.

2. grade calculator for ZAP overall grade (after the Gymnasium exam): You can use this grade calculator to calculate the overall ZAP grade from the preliminary grade and the ZAP exam grade after the grammar school exam or, if the preliminary grade does not count, the overall ZAP grade from the ZAP exam grade only.

By the way: Our grammar school exam grade calculators not only allow you to calculate the grades for the Zurich grammar school exam for long and short grammar schools, but also the grades for the other central entrance exams (ZAP) in the canton of Zurich, namely the IMS, BMS, HMS and FMS entrance exams.

1. Grade Calculator for Calculating the Required ZAP Exam Grade

You can use this grade calculator to calculate the ZAP exam grade required to pass the central entrance exam (ZAP) before you have written the grammar school exam or ZAP entrance exam for Gymnasium or for IMS, BMS, HMS or FMS

If the preliminary grade counts, you must enter your school grades relevant for the ZAP and then click on the ‘Calculate required ZAP grade’ button. If the preliminary grade does not count, you do not need to enter any grades and simply click on the ‘Calculate required ZAP grade’ button to find out the ZAP exam grade required to pass the ZAP.

The grade calculator will tell you the ZAP exam grade you need to achieve in order to obtain the minimum overall ZAP grade required to pass the ZAP for the selected school type (level). If your preliminary grade is not sufficient to pass the ZAP, the grade calculator will inform you of this.

If the preliminary grade counts, you must enter your school grades relevant for the ZAP as well as the ZAP exam grades and then click on the ‘Calculate overall grade’ button. If the preliminary grade does not count, you only need to enter the ZAP exam grades and click on the ‘Calculate overall grade’ button to find out the overall ZAP grade

In addition to the overall ZAP grade, the grade calculator will also tell you the calculated preliminary grade (if it counts) and the ZAP exam grade as well as whether you have passed or failed the central entrance exam (ZAP) with the overall ZAP grade you have achieved.

Explanation of the Grade Calculation for the Zurich Grammar School Exam

The grammar school exam grade calculation (long-term Gymnasium exam, short-term Gymnasium exam) in the Canton of Zurich and the grade calculation for the other school types (levels) IMS, BMS, HMS and FMS depend on the school type, i.e. the level.

Grammar school exam grade calculation long-term and short-term grammar school - without preliminary grade

The calculation of grades for the grammar school examination for the long-term grammar school and the calculation of grades for the grammar school examination for the short-term grammar school differ if the preliminary grade counts

In the event that the preliminary grade does not count, the overall ZAP grade for both the long-term grammar school examination and the short-term grammar school examination corresponds to the ZAP examination grade, which is made up of 50% of the ZAP examination grade in maths and 50% of the ZAP examination grade in German, whereby the ZAP examination grade in German is in turn made up of 50% of the ZAP examination grade from the German examination section ‘Writing a text (essay)’ and 50% of the ZAP examination grade from the German examination section ‘Language observation and text comprehension’

The central entrance examination (ZAP) for the long and short grammar school is passed in the event that the preliminary grade does not count if the ZAP examination grade is at least a 4.5, which is also the overall ZAP grade.

Grammar school exam grade calculation long-term grammar school - with preliminary grade

If the preliminary grade counts, in the case of the long-term grammar school examination, this must first be calculated from the German and maths grades from the last school report before the grammar school examination, with the German grade and the maths grade each accounting for 50% of the preliminary grade.

The overall ZAP grade consists of 50% of the preliminary grade and 50% of the ZAP examination grade. The ZAP examination grade in turn consists of 50% of the ZAP examination grade in maths and 50% of the ZAP examination grade in German, whereby the ZAP examination grade in German in turn consists of 50% of the ZAP examination grade from the German examination section ‘Writing a text (essay)’ and 50% of the ZAP examination grade from the German examination section ‘Language observation and text comprehension’

The central entrance examination (ZAP) for the long-term grammar school is passed in the event that the preliminary grade counts if the overall ZAP grade is at least a 4.75.

Grammar school exam grade calculation short-term grammar school - with preliminary grade

If the preliminary grade counts for the short-term grammar examination, it must be calculated from the grades in German, Maths, English, French and Nature & Technology from the last school report before the Gymi examination, with the grades in each of these five subjects accounting for 20% of the preliminary grade.

The central entrance examination (ZAP) for the short-term grammar school is passed in the event that the preliminary grade counts if the overall ZAP grade is at least a 4.75.

ZAP grade calculation IMS, BMS, HMS and FMS - without preliminary grade

In the event that the preliminary grade does not count, the overall ZAP grade for the IMS, BMS, HMS and FMS examinations corresponds to the ZAP examination grade, which is made up of 50% of the ZAP examination grade in maths and 50% of the ZAP examination grade in German, whereby the ZAP examination grade in German is in turn made up of 50% of the ZAP examination grade from the German examination section ‘Writing a text (essay)’ and 50% of the ZAP examination grade from the German examination section ‘Language observation and text comprehension’

The central entrance examination (ZAP) for IMS (IT secondary school), BMS (vocational baccalaureate school), HMS (commercial secondary school) and FMS (specialised secondary school) is passed in the event that the preliminary grade does not count if the ZAP examination grade is at least a 4.25, which is also the overall ZAP grade.
