Examination preparation for gymnasium
Entrance examination 2020/2021
The entrance examination in 2021 takes place without any changes due to an administrative appeal.
The gymnasium - Springboard for the future
As always, an excellent education is crucial for the professional future. At the gymnasium, pupils learn foreign languages as well as abstract thinking, which is more than ever necessary in a demanding profession.
Without specific exam preparation for the gymnasium the transfer is hardly possible. Even if the schools offer a gym preparation during two lessons per week in the new school year, this is usually not enough.
All our course materials are continuously updated and adapted to the latest teaching materials. The training material is prepared and compiled by us centrally, which is very time-consuming.
In the Lern-Forum teachers are employed who are exclusively responsible for the preparation of the course material.
Thanks to the tightly managed courses, the students learn very efficiently and can close existing gaps and gain confidence in solving the tasks.
Preparation courses alongside the school 1 x per week
Preparation courses over a longer period of time guarantee a sustainable learning success. With our own learning material, which is specifically designed for the requirements of the exam, the students receive a complete preparation. All exam-relevant topics are repeated and taken in depth.
The teachers can respond individually to the students and answer questions at any time.

Trial days for Gymnasium prep courses
You do not need to register early. We look forward to meeting you.
For each course, we have compiled a comprehensive Lern-Forum course binder. These binders are continuously revised and always up to date with the latest subject knowledge.
Each student has their own binder with all exercises and the pertinent solutions printed on paper. Upon completion of the course, the student retains this binder, so that the student may continue to study and practice the material contained within.
Frequently asked questions about gymnasium preparation
What combinations of preparation courses are recommended?
Our courses are perfectly coordinated and build on each other. Depending on individual needs, the courses can be optimally combined so that the student gets the combination he or she needs. If you need help in selecting and putting together a course, we will be happy to advise you personally.
Example 1: Preparatory courses alongside the school in the 5th and 6th grade
Example 2: Didn't pass the gymnasium examination in the 6th grade or 2nd Sec. and to close gaps in the 1st / 2nd Sec early.
Example 3: Preparatory course 6th grade alongside the school (for long-term gymnasium) or 2/3rd grade (for short-term gymnasium) and supplementary specific intensive courses
Example 4: Attending a public preparation course at the school and specific intensive courses at the Lern-Forum
How long does a course day of the preparation course alongside the school last?
We attach great importance to the fact that our course days alongside the school have an effective time frame. This ensures that the subject matter taught gets stuck and the students are not overloaded. More does not always mean that it is better.
Children's comprehension time is between 30 and 40 minutes. It is therefore important to use this time frame sensibly and efficiently. In our experience, our course days alongside the school are no longer than 2.25 hours for primary school pupils and 3 hours for secondary school pupils.
The positive feedback confirms our approach. Since our gym preparation time of about half a year is very intensive and the children should learn in a motivated and effective way, we also pay attention to a dynamic teaching structure and a coordinated course structure.
In addition, we also attach great importance to imparting interdisciplinary skills such as concentration exercises and learning strategies to the students in order to be able to approach the exams in a more targeted and successful manner and to process the learning material in the best possible way.
Although the lessons are relatively short, they are compact and efficient, so that we are able to respond to the individual needs of each student. Tasks that can be carried out without a supervisor, such as writing essays, are prepared as homework and handed in by the teacher in the follow-up lesson. The students check the homework with the solutions, mark where there are ambiguities and note down questions. In this way, lessons can be started without any loss of time and well prepared. After consolidating the basics in the course, exercises are also solved from home. This encourages independent work and problem-oriented action and deepens the teaching material in a targeted manner.
All teachers keep a lesson log on the Internet so that students and parents can check the homework and the material covered at any time.
The children receive individual and comprehensive feedback and tips. In this way, your child is effectively and optimally introduced to the contents of the exam and learns important skills that are also beneficial for his or her further school and professional career.
We also take the time to simulate exams towards the end of the preparation course so that the students also learn to deal successfully with exam nerves and pressure situations. There is also the possibility to take part in our Simulated examination "like real" (not included in the preparation course). We do our best to ensure that your child is optimally prepared for the gymnasium exams. That's where we got our motto: short but crisp! Learning with joy leads to success!
What are the school requirements?
In order to successfully pass the Gymi exams, you should already have a corresponding grade point average. In the Canton of Zurich, it is recommended to have a 5.0 in mathematics and German at primary school or a 4.5 in one of the subjects and a 5.5 in the other.
If your child does not yet meet these requirements, it is worthwhile to attend a more intensive preparation programme. For example, it would be possible to start the preparation already in the 5th grade or to attend additional intensive courses during the holidays.
For the secondary school / short term grammar school, an average grade of at least 4.75 in mathematics / German and French is recommended.
When does the gymnasium exam take place? Until when and where do you have to register?
The registration deadlines for the long-term gymnasium in the canton of Zurich usually end at the beginning of February. In the Canton of Zurich, the entrance examinations are then held at the beginning of March at the respective gymnasium. However, you must register your child yourself online at the school in question under Central Entrance Examination .

What grades does my child need to pass the Gymi Exam?
In order to be admitted to the long-term gymnasium, the average of the experience grades (mathematics and German grades from the last report) and the examination grades must be at least 4.5. The subjects mathematics and German count 50% each. If this average (overall grade) is not achieved, the student in question is definitely not admitted.
For admission to the Kurzzeitgymnasium, the average of the examination marks must be at least 4.0 (the mathematics and German marks count 40% each, the French mark counts 20%; the examination mark in the German subject is made up of the mark of the essay and that of the language examination, which count 50% each). If the overall mark (average of the examination marks) is between 3.75 and 4.0, the pupil concerned can take the oral examination. If an overall grade of at least 4.0 is achieved there, the pupil has also been successfully admitted to the Kurzzeitgymnasium. Students who already achieve an overall grade of at least 4.0 in the written examination do not have to take the oral examination.
The examination results are usually available within two to three weeks after the examinations and are sent by post and posted on the website www.zentraleaufnahmepruefung.ch
The exams are not sent home to the participants. Anyone wishing to view the correction must do so on the occasion of specific inspection dates.
My child is ill on the day of the exam - should he or she still take the exam?
In general: Whoever takes the exam is physically able to take it. So if you should fail the exam, you can be excused afterwards with the reason: "Yes, but I was ill." you can't change anything. If there is a serious case of illness, you should inform the secretary's office of the school in question, bring a doctor's certificate and come back to make up the date.
How can you improve your writing style and write good essays?
Since the German mark is weighted 40% in the entrance examination to the gymnasium, linguistic expression, text interpretation and grammar have become more important than ever in preparation.
We regularly write essays in the courses and a specialised team corrects, evaluates and grades them. If your child has written an essay and requires professional essay correction, we will correct your child's essays in accordance with the guidelines for the entrance exams to long-term or short-term grammar schools.

I missed the start of the preparation course. Can I still attend the course?
Our preparation courses alongside the school courses are systematic and build on each other. We offer courses with 18, 14 and 10 course days. However, it is possible to join an ongoing course by arrangement.
In addition, we also offer intensive courses on specific topics, in which the main topics are dealt with and deepened in quick succession. The intensive courses can be combined with the courses alongside the school as required.
How much time should I spare for homework?
For an optimal consolidation of the material covered and for doing the homework, plan about 90-120 minutes per week. In this way, your child can also prepare optimally for the next course days and address any uncertainties in a targeted manner.
Where can I find further material and exercises for preparation online?
For preparation from home or on the road (e.g. during holidays) we recommend the exercise materials in the form of ring binders. These materials form the core of our additional offer. The maths, German and French preparation modules contain the entire examination material. So you can be sure that your child is fully prepared for the exam.
Theory videos are available to explain the respective topic. This allows you to quickly review the material, identify gaps and learn via the ring binder system. This combination offers every student the opportunity to work through, understand and deepen the material in different ways.

Is there a guarantee of success for passing the gymnasium exam?
We do our best to prepare your child specifically and optimally. However, passing the gymnasium exams depends on a variety of factors, so attending our courses does not guarantee that your child will successfully pass the exams. First and foremost, success also depends on your child's motivation and initiative, as well as the required leap in performance.
We design the courses to be pedagogically valuable, so that the subject matter to be taught does not deter the children, but helps them to learn more effectively, more easily and more successfully. Please also note that the preliminary grades are also decisive for the performance leap your child needs to make in order to pass the Gymi exams.
For the Langgymnasium, with a preliminary mark of 4.0, an examination average of 5.0 is required to pass. This means a more intensive and performance-enhancing preparation than with preliminary grades of 5.0, where a 4.0 would be sufficient for the exams.
During our preparation we keep you informed about your child's progress and communicate openly and transparently.
Didn't pass the gymnasium exam - what happens next?
If your child does not pass the exams, it is not the end of the world and does not automatically mean that he or she is not up to the challenge. It should be specifically clarified what the reason for not passing the exam was.
Many students suffer from exam nerves or too much pressure was built up in the run-up to the exam. We prevent this by simulating the exams and strengthening the self-confidence in one's own performance.
Moreover, a failed gymnasium exam does not mean the end of the world. Examinations can be repeated and in addition, very good alternatives are available in Switzerland with BMS, IMS, FMS, Passerelle etc.
When can my child repeat the exam?
The exam can be repeated in the short-term grammar school after the 2nd or 3rd sec. There is no possibility to do this after the 1st sec. After the successful completion of the 3rd sec, an additional school year is added.
